Scorekeeper / Timekeeper Virtual Training Opportunity
Massachusetts Hockey is inviting all scorekeepers to attend a virtual training session to help for this coming 2022-2023 hockey season.
Register Now: 9/26/22
Scorekeepers are one of the most vital roles in any sporting event. The Scorekeeper must have the knowledge and tools to do their jobs well. How to document events that occur during a game properly so that anyone who reads a scoresheet afterward has a good understanding of who did what and when from goals, penalties, penalty shots, timeouts, or any unusual occurrence during a contest.
The Scorekeeper/Timekeeper can be thought of as the third official in the hockey game. The referees, along with the coaches, players, fans, and leagues rely on the individual responsible for this part of the game to know what their responsibilities are before, during, and after the game.
If you are interested you must register for the following training session:
When: Monday, September 26, 2022
Time: 8:00 PM EST
Where: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0ucO6rqjIvGtYq0W-TGOkc20fbkBVXWU0v
Meeting ID: 893 7734 9502
Instructors:
Bruce Finethy (District 9 Director & Veteran Score/Timekeeper)
Isabella Capozzi (Score/Timekeeper Assignor)
John Murray (Mass Hockey Referee Coordinator & former Score/Timekeeper for Hockey East and Hockey Night in Boston)
What will be discussed?
The instructors will discuss the expected duties and responsibilities of a Scorekeeper/Timekeeper. This discussion will include what duties are required Pre-Game, During Game, and Post Game. Learn what is required such as obtaining roster labels for scoresheets confirming rosters including corrections with scratches, numbers, and names as needed, to having the coach sign and referees review before the drop of the first puck.
We will talk about the required information needed on the sheets i.e. goals, assists, penalties with times properly listed to noting any unusual activities, timeouts, and more. Then after the game activities include obtaining signatures from the coaches and officials as well as dispersing the document to the appropriate individuals to report any unusual activities to their assignor/league representative.
It is important that our Scorekeepers/Timekeepers understand that their work continues beyond the end of the game and the importance of a legible and accurate scoresheet.
We encourage that every program, league, and rink responsible for hiring the Scorekeeper/Timekeeper have their respective Scorekeepers attend this Zoom Meeting.
We appreciate your support of this initiative and hope to see you and your staff at this event.
